About

Monica Pastor ~ Owner

After completing a Masters in Art History at the University of British Columbia, Monica Pastor opened Jest Gallery in 1998. Creating a space for contemporary arts in Whitefish, Jest included both established and emerging artists who presented an innovative process to traditional art forms.  Monica operated Jest through 2014 and also taught art history at Flathead Valley Community College.  After a brief hiatus, she opened Underscore Art and Jewelry in the fall of 2017, continuing the vision that she had established at Jest, but on a larger scale.  The gallery presents both one person and thematic exhibitions of photography, painting and sculpture.

 Jewelry return policy

We understand the challenges of ordering jewelry online and know it is a very personal decision. Oftentimes it is much easier to make this decision when the jewelry is in your hands, in front of your eyes and tried on.

If the piece does not work for you then please reach out to us at info@underscoreart.com. We will ask you to please send back whichever way is most convenient for you, UPS, USPS or FEDEX. The jewelry must arrive unworn, in pristine condition, in the original packaging, and with the receipt- within 10 days of receiving the order. If these requests are met, you will receive a refund minus the original shipping charge and and 5% restocking fee. You will be refunded to your original purchasing card or store credit will be issued.

New Artist Submissions

Thank you for your interest in Underscore Art and Jewelry. We are always interested in seeing new art, but because of the volume of submissions that the gallery receives, we would appreciate your following the guidelines below when submitting your work.

Please email your digital submission to info@underscoreart.com. The subject line of your email will be your name. If you would like to submit a website or social media account for review, please include that in your email. If you would prefer to submit individual jpg images, please attach no more than seven images, that you hope to show, with artist name, title of work, medium and dimensions in each file name.

It is important that you include a brief artist statement, biography or CV with your education, exhibition history, grants/awards, list of collectors (private, public and corporate), current gallery affiliations, any upcoming exhibitions or openings and copies of reviews/press received, as well as a general price list for your current work and a history of recent gallery sales.

All submissions are reviewed quarterly by our new artist committee, and we respond to those submissions which the gallery feels might be a good fit. We do not look at any potential new artwork in the gallery during business hours. You will be contacted only if there is an interest in further discussions about your work. We like to keep submissions on file indefinitely for future consideration, so please feel free to send us updates on your work and career development.

The entire staff at Underscore wishes you all the best on your artistic journey.

Sincerely,

Monica Pastor
